SRSO attaches great importance to assist community in improvement and addition in the existing critical physical infrastructure with community participation as essential element. Physical infrastructure is normally considered one of the strongest and more visible indicators of development with a high demonstration effect and provides inspiration to the community to own and involve in the development process.

Rural communities are living in, to say the least, very difficult conditions. SRSO motivates, mobilizes and organizes community to conceive and implement local infrastructure schemes and offers them financial assistance and technical guidance in construction and for maintenance etc. In implementation of these schemes, SRSO also acts as an intermediary and facilitates linkage of COs in implementing any physical infrastructure, explicit policy guidelines are followed.

It is done through the consultative process CO in which the community prioritizes its needs. It is an essential pre requisite so as to get the willingness and commitment of the CO members to implement the scheme and eventually own it for sustainability.

CPI Engineers have helped communities to construct water supply schemes, cattle yards, sanitation and   lining of watercourses so that losses are minimized, to install lift irrigation schemes where these are technically feasible. PITD engineers also built roads linking remote villages to main roads. This latter activity brings economic and social opportunities to communities: people pay less for goods and services, opportunities to market their farm and other produce are greatly expanded and their access to medical care is increased. Opportunities to attend school and to find employment are also increased.
