SRSO has thus been
established under the Company’s Ordinance 1984 in July
2003. Initially NRSP started the program with three union
councils (UCs) of Rohri Tehsil in Sukkur district. However, after coming on
board in July 2003, SRSO expanded the program to 15 UCs during
2004-5 in five districts of Sukkur, Khairpur, Jacobabad, Shikarpur and Ghotki.
In the following year, the program grew to 42 union councils
of seven Districts of upper Sindh including two new districts of Larkana,
& Naushehero Froze. In the current fiscal year, SRSO is starting its operation
in two newly carved districts of Qamber & Kashmore from the mother districts
of Larkana and Jacobabad.
In this way, SRSO would cover 54 Union Councils
out of 348 Union Councils of nine districts. Sindh has total
of 1,106 UCs (both urban &rural). In SRSO's present operational
area of seven districts rural population is about 6.452 million which is 41.35%
of total rural population of Sindh. The total number of households in the
operational area is 992,615.
