District Kamber Shahdadkot faces Flood Threat

On July 3rd, Shahdadkot faced a serious flood threat following breach in drain near Bagho Pul and Heavy rainfall in various parts of sindh on the Monday right about 150 villages had been submerged because of an over right surge in water level.

10 Union Councils, comprising 25% the area of district Kamber Shahdadkot have been effected by the flood about 10% of the district population is estimated to be affected. 

According to figures confirmed by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA),6th July 2007. 111 death had confirmed ,50000 to 60000 people  have become homeless and about  1,50,000 have been affected in Sindh. 

People who had moved out of the flood –affected areas of Shahdadkot plus Qubo Saeed Khan are taking shelter along the motorway, are braving scorching Sun and waiting for relief, the communication links of all major roads were blocked. 

Government, clusters heads, military , UN agencies and NGO’s reached at the area of started working for the relief. Amongst whom SRSO has also setup relief camps and is working for the relief of displaced population of shahdadkot in Kamber district, those emergency camps before SRSO are  providing food, drinking water and medicines to the marooned people. 

During the past two weeks, SRSO has been indulged in Serving dry and cooked food, drinking water, milk, medicines and treatments of animals, Vaccination drenching facility plus most importantly 100 CLTS/Latrines 

SRSO is providing two time meal/food to 200 families daily, it has setup a medical camp in association with PPHCI., whereas Doctors and Paramedics and our volunteer staff are providing free medicines and other medical treatment to the effected people. 

The main source of living of people of shahadadkot was agriculture and livestock, agriculture and lands has been ruined fully but as far as concern to livestock few of animals are still alive which are asset for these people. SRSO has setup a camp where treatment of these animals has been provided by our veterinary Doctors.

 SRSO is performing Vaccination and drenching of these animals. SRSO has so far distributed 2500 quarter milk packs amongst the effected people. This milk was contributed by the staff of Engro Foods Ltd.

 In collaboration with Takhlique foundation (NGO of Karachi) SRSO has planned to provide 100 CLTS  latrines to the affected HHs, which is under process. 

SRSO has arranged visit of DFID mission to the flood affected areas of shahdadkot to appraise them about the devastated  affects of this natural calamity. DFID mission is likely to extend fund for the relief. 

TRDP has respond to the disaster by providing aid of ambulance and 1250 gallen water tanker for providing water. 

On 9th July 2007 The Chief Minister Sindh visited SRSO camp at Qubo Saeed Khan and highly appreciated its efforts.

Needs:
Among the needs there is urgency for mosquito nets and food (either dry or cooked). In addition there is a need of animal breed.
